<text>I'm feeling like I could stand to take another parenting class (or two). One that specifically addresses gifted children, or an aspect of raising gifted children, might be good. I like the idea of SENG's webinars and plan to take advantage of those, but what about a webex (or other type) that is more like a class? </text>

<text>Every child in america should have the option of opting out of their local school, and using a free, accredited online substitute. The software should be intelligent enough to vary it's speed to match the pace of the learners. Any child who gets credit for '3rd grade Math' for example, would have the right to attend '4th grade Math' at their local school.</text>

<text>While reading Outliers, there was discussion of school that do achievement testing in both the spring and fall. Apparently some children make huge gains in their learning over the summer. Seems to me that this is a clear indication that garden variety school is 'slowing down their learning' and that these kids should be evaluated to see if they need a GIEP. (Not saying that this should be the only way to get into a gifted program)

Since we know that as SES goes up, this 'summering ahead' is more common, one could look for kids who 'outlie' the average summer grown for their SES, so you could finally have an instrument that looked for all kids with special educational needs not just the most advantaged, or the most school-compliant. We literally want to find the kids who learn more out of school than they do in school, and change their school day so it doesn't waste their time.

Hope I'm not re-inventing the wheel here.</text>
